Presentation by the artists of their work, Friday 8 May at 10h, at 'Serveis Territorials'  of the Department of Culture and Communication, Carrer Major, 14. 43003 Tarragona.

The Association of ALUMNI of History of Art at the URV will be organising guided tours of the “Talent Latent” exhibition for its two months duration. Information available at the Information Point at the Exhibition.

tvSCAN, part of the Videoscòpia project, will be present at the inauguration of Talent Latent and at the first events of SCAN 09. Videoscòpia is a project by Jordi Martorell and Lidia Porcar, produced by “el Dispositiu”.

The photographic project Talent Latent is the exhibition strand of the SCAN festival, and one of its pillars. The objective of the exhibition is to serve as a platform for artists at the beginning of their artistic career. The project also hopes to become an important source of information for professionals involved in the world of photography..

In order to bring Talent Latent to life, SCAN has been fortunate to receive the participation of ninety 'satellites', professionals from all over the world, who this year proposed a total of 223 artists for inclusion in Talent Latent 09. Of these, fourteen now form part of the exhibition. The rest of the work nominated has been included on a database available for those professionals who are interested. This tool will allow Talent Latent  to become a reference point for experts in the field of photography..

The present edition has been commissioned by Cristina Zelich, and the selected works are by Alejandro Chaskielberg (Argentina), Laura Cuch (Spain), Amaury da Cunha (France), Lucia Ganieva (Russia), Ignacio García Gómez del Valle (Spain), Tomas van Houtryve (USA), Sirio Magnabosco (Italy), Javier Marquerie Thomas (Spain), Rafal Milach (Poland), Gemma Pardo (Spain), Grégoire Pujade-Lauraine (France), Ángel de la Rubia (Spain), Ahmet Unver (Sweden) and Jorge Yeregui (Spain). The exhibition of their work has opened the second edition of the SCAN photographic festival. Read more...

The exhibition can be visited at Tarragona's Central Market until 5 July. On 2 October, Talent Latent will be on show at Arts Santa Mònica (Barcelona), as part of its quarterly programme dedicated to photography. From there, it will  begin its journey as an international travelling exhibition at different museums and centres worldwide..

The story behind the show: artists and projects

Reflections upon generation, questions of  identity or the feeling of belonging to a social group are all recurring themes, such as are those of the influence of illness or work, situations which mark the patterns of behaviour and very existence of human beings. Other themes that we see reflected in the pieces are the contemplation of the debate upon the urban landscape and its influence on daily life, and the relationship of humans with nature, a relationship questioned in an age in which the environment and its preservation hold a privileged position in the collective imagination.
