SCAN remains opened
The 2009 edition of SCAN photographic festival closed on 17 May after ten days of intense activity and with a great level of participation. In this way it fulfilled SCAN´s defining objective, that of a festival aimed at serving the general public as well as the photographic community.
Almost 4.500 visits paid to the Talent Latent exhibition since its opening on 7 May, confirm this achievement, as well as confirming SCAN as an international platform for new creative artists. The show can be seen at Tarragona's Mercat Central until 5 July, and from then on at the Arts Santa Mònica gallery in Barcelona. You can also see in Tarragona other exhibitions which were inaugauretad as part of SCAN. For more infromation, consult the programme on our website.
The presentation of the pieces which form Talent Latent by the artists themselves on 8 May illustrates SCAN's desire to draw the world of contemporary art closer to the general public. This fact has been verified by the high attendance, especially of young people, and is a good indicator of the way to consolidate the creation of a new public.
A daily average of 280 people attended the Symposium Snapshots of Photographic Theory, where there was also a high percentage of young people. This is another factor which shows the success of the level of participation in SCAN. The talks and round tables, given by more than 25 theorists, allowed a space to reflecto n the theory of photography and in which the spirit of dialogue and exchagne was notable, as was the contrast of opinions and the search for new proposals for the renovation of the discipline. This is especially linked to the evolution of new digital technologies, which generate new challenges and redefine the limits of photography. The appearance of new languages and the ties which exist with collective knowledges are the challenges which now exist in the redefinition of photography.
Finally, more than 200 people attended the closure of the Dialogue The Image in Conflict at the Metropol Theatre, where the debate took place about how the observer always observes from his own personal context. In this way they determine which aspects of reality are shown and which remain hidden. The visits by internauts from all over the world to the forum have consolidated the Dialogue as a tool which promotes open debate on the web.
Both the Symposium and the Dialogue will shortly be published on our website.
