Presentation of Dialogue ‘The image in conflict’

Image of the Dialogue presentation

Joan Fontcuberta, the driving force behind  Dialogue 08, Pepe Baeza, the new director of Dialogue 09, and Joana Hurtado, editor and coordinator of both editions, laid out the premise for this virtual meeting, which consists of an  Internet encounter (http://enconflicte.dialegskrtu.cat), open to comments during the next two months and finishing with a presencial debate at the Metropol Theatre in Tarragona on 13 May at 19.30h. Dialogue also includes the participation of three internationally renowned theorists of the image, including the aforementioned Pepe Baeza, Clemente Bernad and Ignacio Ramonet.

At the presentation Manel Guerrero, of Arts Santa Mònica, and Mariona Fernández, director of the SCAN photographic festival were present. They set out the fundamental concepts behind the 2009 edition. Joan Fontcuberta highlighted the important challenge for photography that SCAN represents, and underlined its importance in seeking answers to theoretical reflection in the area of photography. He  accentuated Dialogue's  originality as a way of beginning to fill this void in the theory of photography.

During the presentation, SCAN was able to contact, via Skype, Clemente Bernad, one of Dialogue 09's participants, and with Christian Caujolle, one of the protagonists of the last edition, who related his experience. Caujolle debated  The Ubiquity of Image with Joan Fontcuberta and Radu Stern in Dialogue 2008, from which KRTU has edited a book which was also presented.
