‘Paisajes mínimos’
Minimum landscapes’ is a photographic project which investigates the new relationship which exists between man and nature in the city of the twenty first century.
Scientific advances in biotechnology and genetics, applied to diverse fields of life sciences have allowed us to understand, control and above all recreate the functions of Mother Nature. Biology, hand in hand with agriculture, has combined resources to develop controlled environments which generate optimum climates and conditions. Elaborate, highly sophisticated technology makes it possible to construct complex artificial ecosystems, maintained and controlled by computers.
His work deals with the continual attraction of the 'exotic', the progressive awareness of the environment, and the scientific advances which have brought about the building of small integrated ecosystems suspended in the modern city. Yeregui's project seeks to challenge the observer to reflect on the real meaning of these ecosystems and of their coexistence with city dwellers.
‘Minimal landscapes’ testifies to this phenomenon and reflects on the real or possibly not real necessity of preserving the environment in a world where biotechnology can now ensure its reproduction.
