With a degree in Art History from Barcelona University, Joana is an art and cinema critic. She writes for Cultura/s, the  La Vanguardia supplement, Cahiers du Cinéma – España and Time Out Barcelona. She has collaborated on catalogues and exhibitions (Núria Canal, Sònia Gómez), and on magazines such as  Parachute (Quebec), Lateral (Barcelona), Zehar (Basque Country), Huarte (Navarra) and Lápiz (Madrid), and is coauthor of the Dictionary of Spanish and Iberoamerican cinema, sponsored by SGAE.

As an independent commissioner, one of her most important achievements has been her work in the Cinergies cycle at the Barcelona Centre of Contemporary Culture (CCCB) Efecte cinema exhibition at  Can Felipa (Barcelona City Council – Sant Martí District).

Holder of a  DEA in Cinematographic and Audiovisual Research from the University of París III – Sorbonne Nouvelle, under the directorship of Alain Bergala, she has worked on different aspects of visual culture, especially in the fields of cinematic essays, video art, performance, photography and the relationship between art and cinema, a theme on which she has published many articles. Since 2008 she has been coordinator and editor of Dialogue, an intrinsic component of the SCAN photographic festival. She is a member of ACCA and the research group CRECI, directed by Jaques Aumont and Philippe Dubois.
